A labor-intensive initiative such as the California Rug Project, which was 22 years in the making, could not have come to fruition without the support of local artists and art centers, neighboring textile organizations, and many art lovers from around the country. We are deeply grateful to all who have made this dream a reality.
- Mendocino Art Center, Mendocino, CA
The Mendocino Art Center awarded sponsorship for the project in 1991 and it is where the California Rug began and ended its construction process.
- Pacific Textile Arts, Fort Bragg, CA
Additional Financial Support
- San Francisco Bay Area Rug Society
- Generous donations from California ranchers, farmers and mills included cotton from the Central Valley, wool from northern flocks and other fibers for the warp, weft and pile.
Securing the California Rug’s Future
The California Rug was completed in 2022. The final phase of the California Rug Project is to find a forever home for this masterwork. Ideally, the Rug will be gifted and housed in a civic art collection and made available for public viewing.
If you are able to help facilitate in the accessioning of the California Rug, please contact the artist to discuss the details. If you have ideas or leads for the Rug’s forever home, click on the Help Now button and let us know how you can help. Thank you.
